Stock Market update -Apr 24th

The market was more or less unchanged this week, except for the NASDAQ 100 which suffered after some disappointing tech earnings from NFLX, IBM, MSFT, and GOOGL.This coming week we'll get earnings from more high profile tech companies like AAPL, AMZN, and FB, along with many other sectors reporting.

Bonds took a hit this week, while Oil was up a bit. Gold seems to be in a sideways pattern.

The market rallied again this week, approaching all time highs on the S&P 500. This will be a big week for earnings and could move markets either way, but remember the recent overall trend is still up.

Financials were up after a few of the big banks reported earnings.

Stock Market update -Apr 3rd

We closed out the quarter with a bang, dropping 10 percent early on, then rallying back to recover all of those losses -quite a roller coaster ride! Fund managers wait all year for a 10% move... We also got a somewhat decent Jobs report on Friday, causing a drop, then a rally. The Energy sector was the under performer this week.

For the quarter, Gold and Gold equities did extremely well, after a multi-year selloff, as did Basic Materials and Energy. Bonds continue to hold up, while Gold seemed to be trending down for March, and the US Dollar has been trending down for the quarter.

We could see the market roll over again as it approaches the top from last December, and this huge rally loses some steam. Watch for earnings in two weeks.

For Options traders, the VIX is approaching pretty low levels again... take a look here.

The market took a breather this week after the recent huge rally. Next week we have the Fed on Tuesday, and the monthly Jobs report on Friday. I expect we'll rally or hold at these levels through the end of the quarter.

Stock Market update -Mar 20th

Stocks rose for a 5th week, bringing some indexes back to breakeven or better for the year. As I mentioned last week, this rally could continue into the end of this 1st quarter -then we get earnings. If previous rallies are any indication (last October looks identical), we could see the market roll over again.  You Are Here

The Dollar dropped, and Commodities rallied as a result.

Stock Market update -Mar 13th

The market rallied on Friday, taking out the high from the previous week, with the SPX closing over 2000. Oil continued to rise. Bonds dropped. Gold dropped on Friday.

Looks like this rally could continue a while longer into the end of the quarter, maybe up to around 2060 on the SPX.

Stock Market update -Mar 6th

The rally continued this week, blowing right past the 50MA, catching many bears by surprise! In my opinion though, the 'new all time high' list doesn't really show any of the true leaders, so we'll see how long it lasts. Options expiration in March could end up with the S&P 500 surprising everyone to the up-side, and with Bonds surprising to the down-side! No one knows, but being aware helps to position yourself...

Gold continued to rally, as did Oil. Bonds were down.

Stock Market update -Feb 28th

The rally continued this week, putting us now at a prior resistance level, so we'll have to see if it breaks through or turns back down.

We got a nice bounce in Gold equities, as well as some commodities. Natural Gas is flirting with the lows. Bonds dropped a bit. Some more earnings next week, and we have the Jobs report on Friday which could move markets...
