Stock Market update -Jul 24th

The market was up a bit this week, hitting new all-time highs again, then pulling back. Maybe we'll see the NASDAQ and Small-caps (IWM), hit all time highs and catch up to the S&P500 before this rally takes a break.

Oil prices dropped again, while Bonds seem to have settled down from the prior selling.

Stock Market update -Jul 10th

We got a positive surprise with the monthly Jobs number on Friday, and the market rallied some more. But so did Bonds -these normally move in opposite directions. The next few weeks will probably tell us where we go from here on a longer term basis -earnings, Brexit, Euro banks, Japan... For now, looks like we will take out the all time S&P500 highs this week or next.

Stock Market update -Jul 3rd

Happy 4th of July!

We saw a strong recovery rally after the Brexit selloff, which itself lasted only two days! But we also got a rally in Bonds and Gold -interesting, everything rallied! Lets see what the 3rd quarter brings as we get ready for earnings season again -could be a rocky one. We have been at this level in the S&P500 several times over the past 18 months but have not been able to break above it to new highs.

Stock Market update -Jun 26th

This was Brexit week, and we got it on Friday! The DOW was down overnight over 700 points at one time, and Bonds and Gold shot up like a rocket. Great Britain decided to leave the EU and it roiled markets in a big way (see Friday's closing numbers below).

What does this mean going forward? No one really knows, but we could see further downside action back to the February lows maybe. Japan's market already dropped to the Feb lows on Friday.

With all the uncertainty, including Brexit, I have a hard time thinking that the market will rally from here, especially since it hasn't been able to rally past the tops of just over 2100 for more than a year. But in spite of the huge drop on Friday, we're just back to the mid-May levels of around 2040, hardly a market crash!

Brexit cost investors $2 trillion, the worst one day drop ever

Stock Market update -Jun 12th

The market was rising for the week, then dropped on Friday. Next week we get the Fed decision on interest rates, a potential market mover. Volatility is starting to increase as a result, and also from things like Brexit, currency volatility, and an increase in negative Bond yields globally.  US Bonds rallied this week (pushing rates down), and Gold rallied as well. The VIX had a big move up for the first time in a long time, so be careful.

The market had lots of ups and downs, but ended pretty much unchanged for the week. Next week we have very little news events, so it could be a quiet week, or not!
