Stock Market update -Aug 21st

The equity market was pretty much flat for the week, but Bonds dropped and Oil popped. Earnings season is pretty much over, and next week we have the Fed with possible news out of their meeting -nothing expected though.

Meanwhile the usual worries linger re. Europe/Italy, Japan, etc.

The market was more or less flat this week, having hit new all time highs in all three major indexes. Gold sold off on Friday.


NVDA popped on earnings. M, JWN and others also popped, pushing up XRT...

Stock Market update -Aug 7th

The market rallied to a new all time high on a good Jobs number on Friday, with 255,000 new jobs added (S&P 500). Financials rallied too, with the increased expectation for a rate hike. Implied Volatility is at a very low level, and Bollinger Bands suggest an upcoming breakout move -we'll only know the direction after it happens though! But this rally is long in the tooth... Bonds and Gold dropped.

Market worries... Japan, GB/Brexit, Italian banks, DB, Europe, Turkey...


BMY dropped, while MRK popped on news.
PCLN popped on earnings, closing at 1414 on Friday!
FEYE, TRIP dropped on earnings.

The market was flat to slightly down for the week, with tech earnings boosting things a bit for the NASDAQ. We continue to get a barrage of earnings this week, along with the usual issues in Japan and Europe. Friday is also Jobs day!

Oil prices fell, while Bond prices rose. Gold was up a bit too.


AMZN, AAPL, FB, GOOGL popped on earnings. TWTR, WDC dropped.

Stock Market update -Jul 24th

The market was up a bit this week, hitting new all-time highs again, then pulling back. Maybe we'll see the NASDAQ and Small-caps (IWM), hit all time highs and catch up to the S&P500 before this rally takes a break.

Oil prices dropped again, while Bonds seem to have settled down from the prior selling.

Stock Market update -Jul 10th

We got a positive surprise with the monthly Jobs number on Friday, and the market rallied some more. But so did Bonds -these normally move in opposite directions. The next few weeks will probably tell us where we go from here on a longer term basis -earnings, Brexit, Euro banks, Japan... For now, looks like we will take out the all time S&P500 highs this week or next.


Post Brexit, GOOGL recovered nicely, as did FB, AMZN,  and others
AMZN closed at  all time highs -so did Bonds! Stocks are almost there!

Stock Market update -Jul 3rd

Happy 4th of July!

We saw a strong recovery rally after the Brexit selloff, which itself lasted only two days! But we also got a rally in Bonds and Gold -interesting, everything rallied! Lets see what the 3rd quarter brings as we get ready for earnings season again -could be a rocky one. We have been at this level in the S&P500 several times over the past 18 months but have not been able to break above it to new highs.
